Grouping and Sorting
If you visit the View menu, you’ll find 3 different levels of grouping and sorting options. Viewing your items is a personal and highly customizable experience and Bee faciliates this by allowing you to modify how the projects are presented.
These options vary according to the service and type of project you are currently viewing. The naming of these options can also differ slightly depending on the service you are currently using.
Group By
- Project
- Displays all your items in a single column ordered by the ‘Sort Items By’ setting.
- The group headers are hidden because there are no groups in this mode.
- Label
- Groups your items by label.
- Item Type
- Groups your items by type (e.g. bug, feature, etc.)
- Assigned User
- Groups are users and the group’s children are the items that are assigned to that user.
- Created User
- Groups are users and the group’s children are the items that are created by that user.
- Board Projects (JIRA Software)
- Groups are the projects that make up the Board (Scrum or Kanban) that you are currently viewing.
- Sprint (JIRA Software)
- Groups are Sprints including the Backlog.
- This is equivalent to the ‘Plan’ mode in JIRA Software.
- Column
- Groups are Columns.
- This is equivalent to the ‘Work’ mode in JIRA Software.
- Milestone (GitHub, Manuscript)
- Groups are milestones and the group’s children are the items that belong to that milestone.
Sort Groups By
- Manual Order
- Groups are sorted according to the service.
- (With some projects, you can manually rearrange the groups yourself by simply dragging and moving the group around.
- First Item
- Groups are sorted according to the first item that appears in the group.
- This means the group sort order is dependant on the ‘Sort Items By’ setting.
- Name
- Groups are sorted according to their name.
- Number of Items
- Groups are sorted according to the number of items they have.
- Date (GitHub, Manuscript)
- If grouped by Milestone, this will sort the groups according to each milestone’s start date.
Sort Items By
- Manual Order
- Items are sorted according to the service.
- This also means you are able to rearrange the items by dragging and dropping if the service permits this.
- JIRA Software Sprints and Columns for example are sorted by Manual Order by default to allow you to reorder your issues.
- Assigned User
- Items are sorted by the assigned user’s name.
- Created User
- Items are sorted by the created user’s name.
- Date Created
- Items are sorted by the date they were created.
- Date Due
- Items are sorted by their due date.
- Date Updated
- Items are sorted by the date they were last updated.
- Date Last Started
- Items are sorted by the date they were last started.
- Estimate
- Items are sorted by their time estimates.
- Next
- Items which you have marked as Next are grouped together.
- Priority
- Items are sorted by the priority they have.
- State
- Items are sorted by their state.
- An item’s state is a Bee-specific thing and can be either:
- Active (currently timing);
- Open; or
- Intermediate.
- Type
- Items are sorted by their type (e.g. bug, feature, etc.).
Display Options
- Groups
- Past Milestones (Manuscript, GitHub)
- Milestones which have since ended can be toggled on/off.
- Closed Sprints (JIRA Software)
- Sprints which have since ended can be toggled on/off.
- You must be grouped by Sprint to adjust this option.
- Progress Scrubber
- Toggle the Progress Scrubber which appears at the bottom of each group on/off.
- The Progress Scrubber illustrates your progress by showing you a timeline of closed items within each group.
- You can hover over each interval in the scrubber to view a tooltip of the closed item.
- Click an interval and that closed item will be opened for you to view.
- Remaining Items
- When you select a group by option, there are sometimes items which are not able to be grouped because they are not associated with that option.
- E.g. grouping by Label might result in some items appearing in the Remaining Items group because those items do not have any labels.
- This option allows you to toggle this group on/off.
- Past Milestones (Manuscript, GitHub)
- Items
- Assigned User
- Toggle the display of the assigned user avatar which appears at the end of each assigned item on/off.
